Welcome

We are happy to have you with us! Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we can only welcome 100 people during our masses. We ask everyone who wants to join us on Sunday to save a seat for themselves and their family. Our ushers and staff have been trained and equipped to make sure mass runs smoothly and safely. We normally have about 700 families visiting us on Sunday, so you might not experience COS to its fullest. But it remains a pleasure to welcome you into our home!

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to our international English speaking parish. It is great to have you visit us in the community as well as online.

The Roman Catholic Church of Our Saviour in The Hague is a large, vibrant community, which Alumni have described as: “A family far away from home”. For over 1000 people every weekend, it offers a place to meet for worship, formation, and social events. All these activities take place in our church and pastoral center through more than 50 different groups.

During this Corona pandemic, of course, there are many restrictions. Nevertheless, we try to keep in touch with each other online and -as safe as possible- within our buildings.

In our worship, religious education, and group activities, we try to make the Gospel a relevant inspiration and response to the needs of the world today. You can expect the usual catholic activities and services in our parish. But what makes us unique in The Hague, as the World See of Justice and Peace, is our extensive outreach program. The guidelines from Pope Francis’ Encyclical Laudato Si and the UN sustainable development goals go hand in hand with the values of the Gospel. We keep in touch with the world around us through groups that try to make a difference in the lives of the poor. On an annual basis, 25% of all our income is donated to charity. You will find various very active charity programs for refugees and homeless, but also for the wellbeing of our environment.

I hope you will find a happy home in our parish during your time in The Netherlands. Even if you reside here for a short while, feel welcome to get involved. From over 70 different nationalities, we make this community into a unique treasure of many different talents and experiences. We build on what former parishioners have left behind, and future generations will benefit from what we make the church today.

Wishing you every blessing during your stay and thank you for being a blessing for us,

Sincerely,

Fr. Sjaak de Boer PhD

We love to get to know you

We know how challenging it can be to enter somewhere new, where you don’t know anybody and don’t know your way around. And while we cannot take that feeling away from you completely, we will do our best to welcome you into our community and make you feel at home.

To see all the different groups and their activities, check out our group’s page. There are many groups gathering around various different kinds of activities. You are bound to find something that speaks to you. Also, we have a great outreach program with different causes we support. New volunteers are always welcome. It is a great way to get to know other parishioners!

Religious Education

We have 1600 families, with kids from all ages, registered in our community, our religious education program is quite the organization. We offer different levels of religious education, suited for different ages. Our classes start at the beginning of the new school year (September) and run throughout the year. We also have an educational program for adults who want to get to know, grow, or deepen their understanding of Christianity and their own faith.

COVID-19 Measures

Having a safe church environment to worship together is the highest priority at COS. We are doing everything we can to ensure you and all our parishioners can come to church to attend mass safely. In church we have taken precautions to ensure the minimal 1.5 meter distance between all families.

If you want to attend mass, reserving a seat is mandatory. Without a ticket we cannot allow you in When you arrive have your tickets ready for us to scan them. Then follow the usher’s instruction to be seated. Communion is no longer given by our Eucharistic Ministers, but are placed in a small bamboo (anti-septic) basket for you to pick up yourself.
