For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission

 

Pope Francis celebrated Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica for the solemn opening of the Synod of Bishops on 10 October.

The Church of God is convoked in Synod. With this convocation, Pope Francis invites the whole Church to question itself on synodality: a decisive theme for the life and mission of the Church. This synod will be a two-year journey (2021-2023) of reflection and sharing of the whole Church, a journey in which our parish, The Church of Our Saviour, will be joining for the next 2 years.

In his homily, Pope Francis took the Gospel Reading recounting Jesus’ encounter with a rich young man, as a starting point for a reflection on synodality, saying ‘’celebrating a Synod means walking on the same road together’’.

Following the example of Jesus, he emphasized three verbs that characterize the Synod: encounter, listen, and discern
