Turning the Cross Around

September 24, 2021

This heading may sound rather strange but in fact, it is what it is…

In our sanctuary, we have a beautiful colorful icon of the Pantocrator Christ painted by our former Pastoral Assistant, Sally Williams, who has since moved back to England with her family.

On the other side of this large work of art, is the original icon of the beautiful image of the Crucified Christ, with Mother Mary and the Apostle John at the foot of the cross. This original icon was designed and executed by Dutch painter Lambert Simon (1909 -1987).

To appreciate both works of art and their different messages during the liturgical year, it would be great if a mechanism is installed that would make it possible to turn the cross around, without much human effort! The plan is that during Lent, Advent, and the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, the image of the Crucified Christ will be displayed, and for the rest of the year, the Pantocrator Christ.

The cost of this installation mechanism is € 3650. We hope to raise this amount through donations and an extra collection with the goal of having it ready in time for the Feast of Christ the King, our Parish Feast, which will be celebrated this year on 21 November 2021.
